Job Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
  • Must possess as a minimum a high school diploma
  • Must be able to follow safety precautions in dietary
  • Must wear appropriate slip resistant shoes
  • Recommended training in cost control, food management, diet therapy

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Experience in kitchen or food service environment preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
  • Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and food safety
  • Willingness to participate in on-the-job training and educational programs

Job Duties

  • Maintains cleanliness of kitchen and dining room
  • Ensures all dishware and preparation tools are clean and sanitized after each use
  • Assists in preparation and service of food using proper food handling and food safety techniques according to established policies and regulations
  • Keeps work area clean and uncluttered
  • Maintains the proper temperature of food during preparation and service
  • Records temperatures of food according to established policy
  • Maintains the proper temperature and sanitation of dish machine during use
  • Records temperatures of dish machine according to established policy
  • Labels, dates and stores food and chemicals properly according to established policies
  • Ensures that refrigerator/freezer temperatures are within the appropriate range and reports any discrepancies to the supervisor
  • Washes pots, pans, serving utensils, etc. according to established procedures for manual and/or automatic dishwashing and stores them properly to avoid contamination
  • Reports all hazardous and malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor as directed
  • Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding improvements in equipment to enhance the quality of food service
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship in a cooperative manner with all employees in the food service department and other departments
  • Participates in programs for in-service education, on-the-job training and orientation classes for newly assigned department personnel
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to ensure resident rights are protected
