Job Requirements

  • Ability to understand and use industrial dishwashing machines
  • Ability to understand health department regulations
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to handle varying workloads and meet deadlines
  • Ability to promote safe and clean working conditions
  • Ability to safely handle food, utensils, and kitchen equipment
  • Must obtain Food Handlers License within 30 days of hire
  • Valid driver’s license and approval on the OU Driving List prior to operating any university vehicle
  • Physical stamina for fast-paced and demanding work
  • Capability to lift objects up to 58 lbs
  • Ability to climb, crouch, crawl, bend, stoop and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and finger motions
  • Ability to recognize temperature and texture
  • Finger dexterity
  • Ability to push and pull with upper body strength
  • Willingness to work in varying temperature environments from 8 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and university closings as needed

  • Understands and promotes safe and clean conditions
  • Ability to become skilled in the safe and sanitary handling of food, cooking utensils, food processing equipment, refrigeration, elevators, cash registers, food digesters, dishwashers, time clocks, etc
  • Uses small kitchen tools and equipment proficiently, usually learned during introductory period or previous training

Job Duties

  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of dish room, kitchen, walk-in refrigeration, back room, storage and surrounding areas
  • Scrapes and sorts dishes before loading them into a dishwashing machine for cleaning
  • Maintains dishwashing machine and reports any mechanical faults to supervisor
  • Stocks and arranges kitchen utensils and dishes in an orderly manner
  • Transfers supplies, equipment, or food products between storage and work areas by hand or carts/dolly
  • Keeps kitchen supplies stocked
  • Follows safe sanitation/cleaning standards when washing, sanitizing, and storing pots, pans, dishes, tableware, and kitchen utensils
