Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Event Management, Tourism, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of sales and management experience
  • Proven experience managing complex, high-volume event spaces
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and event software
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with ADA, safety codes, and risk management
  • Experience with digital ticketing systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods and walk stairs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must be available to work Derby week and other major events

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Event Management, Tourism, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of sales and management experience with direct responsibility for major events or entertainment facilities
  • Proven experience managing complex, high-volume event spaces
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, event software, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with ADA, safety codes, and risk management best practices
  • Experience with digital ticketing systems
  • Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth and identify market opportunities
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
  • Ability to stand for long periods and walk stairs quickly
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions during racing
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Availability to work during Derby week and other key event weeks

Job Duties

  • Lead the Events Department, creating strategic direction and managing team performance
  • Manage all venue rental inquiries, sales pipelines, and booking processes
  • Generate and review monthly financial and catering reports
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships and ensure compliance
  • Manage internal communication across departments for event execution
  • Serve as primary liaison to in-house caterer for logistics and service standards
  • Collaborate on KDM-sponsored promotional events to ensure brand consistency
  • Lead operational planning and logistics for the annual KDM Ball
  • Drive new business development with corporate and external clients
  • Implement digital tools to streamline operations and enhance client experience
  • Analyze event performance metrics and implement improvements
  • Train and mentor event coordinators on service standards and procedures
  • Oversee client contract lifecycle including negotiations and billing
  • Ensure timely client follow-up and relationship building
  • Develop and manage annual events and rentals budget
  • Represent the Museum at industry events and professional organizations
  • Lead interdepartmental meetings to coordinate logistics
  • Execute major signature events including Derby week activities
  • Collaborate on strategic planning for programming and revenue diversification
  • Support internal events ensuring high service standards
  • Collaborate with Marketing on promotional materials
  • Attend industry trade shows and expos
  • Provide on-site support for museum-hosted events
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
