Job Requirements

  • Must be an Erie County resident
  • Eligible under Erie County civil service rules for the position
  • Possess bachelor's degree or associate degree plus experience or high school diploma plus experience as specified
  • Successful completion of civil service examination if applicable
  • Ability to meet minimum qualifications at time of provisional appointment if applicable
  • Must comply with NY HELPS program guidelines if applicable
  • Provide independent verification of degree equivalency if degree awarded outside the United States
  • Submit a complete application including resume, cover letter, transcripts, and three letters of reference
  • Willingness to adhere to 12-month CORE schedule
  • Ability to assume duties by anticipated start date of July 1, 2026

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in food service, nutrition, institutional or hotel management or closely related field
  • Alternatively, possession of an associate's degree in relevant field plus four years of satisfactory experience in institution management or large quantity food service
  • Or graduation from high school or equivalency diploma plus eight years of relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience considered
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of nutrition and their application to children's health
  • Knowledge of current USDA policies related to NSLP and SBP
  • Understanding of all phases of school lunch programs
  • Knowledge of large quantity food preparation and menu planning
  • Familiarity with purchasing, equipment selection, care, and sanitary food handling and storage
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate work of others
  • Ability to train personnel
  • Proficiency in record keeping and report preparation using industry specific and word processing software
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain good personal relations
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Initiative, tact, good judgment, courtesy, and resourcefulness
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Duties

  • Plan and supervise preparation and service of lunches in multiple schools
  • Plan menus or recommend changes for nutritional value and budget
  • Determine requirements and submit requisitions for food, supplies, and equipment
  • Prepare layouts and make recommendations for maintenance and additions to equipment and physical plant
  • Maintain approved standards of sanitation, health, and safety
  • Receive, inspect, store, and distribute supplies and maintain inventories and related records
  • Supervise collection of and accounting for cash receipts
  • Make reports relating to school lunch program activities
  • Provide information to school staff, students, and community agencies to promote interest in the program
  • Supervise and train food service staff
  • Conduct interviews and make recommendations for hiring
  • Make staff assignments
  • Evaluate work performance
  • Assist in selection of school lunch personnel
