Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • at least 6 years of progressive experience in hotel or related field or equivalent educational background with experience
  • proficiency in Windows and company-approved software
  • knowledge of food and beverage preparation techniques and relevant health, liquor laws
  • ability to work long hours including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to multitask and prioritize
  • ability to work in a courteous and service-oriented manner
  • attendance at required meetings and trainings
  • ability to participate in manager-on-duty coverage
  • maintain personal appearance standards
  • comply with hotel operational standards and regulations
  • demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • maintain confidentiality
  • perform other duties as assigned by management

Job Qualifications

  • at least 6 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field or a 4-year college degree with at least 3 years of related experience or a 2-year college degree with 4 or more years of related experience
  • proficient in Windows, company approved spreadsheets, and word processing
  • knowledge of food and beverage preparation techniques, health department rules, and liquor laws
  • ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests
  • effective listening, understanding, and clarifying concerns from employees and guests
  • multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines
  • maintain an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented approach in all encounters
  • attend all required hotel meetings and trainings
  • participate in manager-on-duty coverage as required
  • maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming including wearing nametags
  • comply with Highgate Hotel standards and regulations
  • maximize productivity efforts and assist in implementing solutions
  • handle problems effectively including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving as necessary
  • ability to understand and evaluate complex information and data
  • maintain confidentiality of information

Job Duties

  • be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees at all times
  • supervise all food and beverage personnel
  • respond to guest complaints in a timely manner
  • prepare the food and beverage budget and monitor department performance
  • monitor industry trends and take action to maintain competitive and profitable operations
  • work with Executive Committee members and keep them informed of food and beverage issues
  • coordinate and monitor all phases of loss prevention in the food and beverage department
  • prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner
  • organize and conduct department meetings regularly
  • monitor quality of service and product
  • cooperate in menu planning and preparation
  • ensure timely purchase of food and beverage items within budget allocation
  • oversee operations of the employee cafeteria
  • ensure compliance with local liquor laws, health, and sanitation regulations
  • ensure departmental compliance with standard operating procedures
  • train department heads on SOPs, report preparation, and technical job tasks
  • attend and conduct departmental and hotel training sessions
  • interview candidates for front-of-house food and beverage positions and follow hiring standards
  • conduct and attend all required meetings including pre- and post-convention meetings
  • ensure overall guest satisfaction
