Job Requirements

  • 5 plus years of experience in hotel accounting
  • Major brand experience preferred
  • BS degree preferred but not absolutely required in lieu of experience
  • Strong PMS property systems preferred
  • MS Excel skills
  • Some management training required
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Sense of ownership and operational knack for success
  • Sound sensible management leadership skills and attitude
  • Accountability to owners asset management and operator

Job Duties

  • Provide ethical and consistent leadership in the financial area of the hotel by supplying management with guidance training support and focusing on profitability
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial reporting and ensure acceptable levels of internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local regulations and safeguard owners investors assets
  • Evaluate the financial impact on business decisions
  • Manage and communicate cash flow related issues including preparation of cash-flow statements management of receivables cash balances control mechanisms and timely deposits
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses ensuring accurate recording in accordance with established guidelines and investigate variances offering improvement strategies
  • Monitor capital planning including calculation of return on capital improvements bid process evaluation and support
  • Ensure hotel compliance on all regulatory licenses permits leases contracts legal agreements and operational taxes
  • Coordinate completion of forecasts and budgets with active management participation
  • Analyze financial data to assist and advise management in maintaining financial objectives
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts including bank reconciliations on a timely basis
  • Establish and audit internal financial controls covering purchasing cash handling disbursements credit extension inventories assets payroll and employee records
  • Hire train supervise and develop finance staff including coaching and discipline
  • Maintain compliance with standards and regulations ensuring safe and efficient hotel operations
  • Direct and prepare financial reports according to company requirements meeting deadlines
  • Review and submit daily revenue reports
  • Ensure timely deposit of all cash and credit card transmissions
  • Review labor reports for overtime and any variance to forecast
  • Review departmental checkbooks advising on changes
  • Distribute and discuss weekly general ledger reports with department managers
  • Update general manager on unfavorable financial issues impacting the month
  • Ensure sufficient cash to meet all scheduled obligations
  • Count all bank funds and main vault
  • Review key financial controls to ensure adherence and compliance
  • Review actual numbers to forecast to find discrepancies for improving forecasting accuracy
  • Participate in monthly credit meetings
  • Complete and review forecasts with department heads
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
