Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major
  • 2 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work full time at Oakland Convention Center
  • Commitment to upholding company policies and procedures
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial targets effectively

Job Qualifications

  • OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major, 2 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Knowledge of event logistics, technology, and operations
  • Budget and financial management experience
  • Ability to develop and implement business strategies
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and certification requirements
  • Proficient in coordinating with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in managing vendor and client relationships

Job Duties

  • Manage all event service, banquet, and event technology operations
  • Oversee event operation teams including Senior Banquet Managers, Banquet Managers, Senior Event Service Managers, Event Service Managers, Event Technology and Operations Managers
  • Develop and implement business plans and long-term strategies for event operations
  • Establish and monitor measurable departmental goals
  • Oversee execution of event logistics and administrative processes
  • Ensure maintenance of function spaces, furniture, and equipment
  • Communicate and execute safety and emergency procedures
  • Participate in audits and certification levels for technicians
  • Implement event-related corporate initiatives and promotions
  • Manage department budget and adjust expenditures according to revenues
  • Consult with customers to determine event objectives and requirements
  • Lead event management and operations meetings
  • Coordinate Event Delivery teams
  • Collaborate with culinary and human resources teams for compliance
  • Maintain relationships with guests, clients, vendors, and competitors
  • Review staffing levels and ensure operational needs are met
  • Attend pre-event meetings and ensure staff training and disciplinary procedures are followed
