Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • minimum seven years of relevant experience
  • five plus years of leadership managing large teams
  • experience in public engagement or related field
  • ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
  • proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required
  • ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • superior negotiation skills
  • commitment to confidentiality
  • willingness to support organizational goals and adapt to changing duties

Job Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in interpretation, education, hospitality, tourism, experience design, non-profit management, theater, or performing arts preferred
  • minimum seven years experience in public engagement, guest experience, interpretation, entertainment, program development, event production, or experiential design
  • five plus years progressive leadership managing large teams and cross-departmental initiatives
  • experience in high-volume attractions preferred
  • ability to design and lead guest engagement strategies combining live interpretation, entertainment, storytelling, and immersive experiences
  • expertise in managing public programs, events, exhibits, and technology-enabled experiences
  • proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • adaptability in fast-paced and changing environments
  • strong negotiation and diplomacy skills
  • recognized as a coach and mentor
  • experience developing and executing strategic goals preferred
  • certifications in National Association for Interpretation, Certified Special Events Professional, or sensory-inclusive experience certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop and steward a multi-year vision and strategic roadmap for guest engagement and entertainment
  • define moments of connection and translate mission into guest experiences
  • align engagement strategies with organizational priorities and campus planning
  • lead and develop large teams of interpretive, event, and AV/technology staff
  • build scalable team structures and training pathways
  • review department organization for staffing and scheduling
  • lead strategic direction for onsite interpretation with immersive storytelling
  • ensure conservation messages are fun, accessible, and culturally relevant
  • collaborate cross-functionally to align interpretive content
  • create and oversee strategy for signature events, seasonal programs, and traveling exhibits
  • identify and develop novel engagement concepts
  • collaborate with multiple departments and partners to ensure operational and financial success
  • set vision for audio-visual, interactive, and immersive technology integration
  • ensure AV operations support mission and guest experience
  • oversee development of diverse public programs with focus on accessibility and inclusion
  • use feedback and data to evolve offerings and expand reach
  • support overall department and organizational goals
  • act as steward of resources
  • safeguard confidential information
