Job Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in hotel restaurant management, culinary arts, or culinary certificate
  • at least five years of management experience including food service in healthcare, restaurant, catering, cafe, or retail settings
  • senior living, resort hospitality, or healthcare experience
  • demonstrated success in luxury hospitality environments
  • knowledge of commercial food operations and management practices
  • willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays
  • availability to remain on duty during emergencies or natural disasters

Job Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts, or Culinary Certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • minimum five years management experience in food service environments including healthcare, restaurant, catering, cafe, or retail settings
  • experience in senior living, resort-level hospitality, or healthcare environments
  • proven success in luxury environments with high service expectations
  • thorough knowledge of commercial food operations, food preparation, menu planning, budgeting, labor cost management, personnel and payroll procedures, recipe development, purchasing systems, and inventory controls
  • ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to remain on duty during emergencies or natural disasters

Job Duties

  • oversee overall culinary department operations
  • plan, develop, organize, implement and evaluate culinary programs and activities
  • review and update departmental policies and procedures annually
  • participate in workshops, seminars, and in-services for professional development
  • maintain knowledge of technologies in the food service industry
  • create a positive and calm atmosphere in the culinary department
  • ensure food quality for residents, guests, and employees
  • participate in quality improvement programs
  • make reports and recommendations to senior management
  • assist in determining food quality and quantity
  • develop food service production and service procedures
  • assist in budget development and cost control
  • maintain records of departmental expenditures including food costs
  • select and negotiate with food and supply vendors
  • implement inventory control procedures
  • purchase food and supplies as needed
  • promote teammate professional development
  • foster inter-departmental relations
  • recruit, train, review, and evaluate culinary staff
  • schedule department personnel
  • develop training and orientation programs
  • conduct monthly in-services
  • serve on facility committees
  • direct safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs
  • monitor food temperatures and inspect culinary areas
  • report hazardous conditions and incidents to senior management
