Job Requirements
- Education level of Bachelor of Science or equivalent certificate in Turfgrass Management
- Minimum four years of experience in field operations especially within professional sports
- Possession or ability to quickly obtain Texas Pesticide Applicators License
- Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays
- Physical capacity for demanding outdoor work including lifting up to 50 pounds
- Capability to work in extreme weather conditions
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Proven ability to manage and train staff
- Effective communication skills
- Dependable attendance and adherence to schedule
Job Qualifications
- Four plus years of related experience including professional sports field maintenance
- Bachelor of Science degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management
- Proven success managing complex projects on time and on budget
- Knowledge of baseball field regulations and irrigation systems
- State of Texas Pesticide Applicators License with Turf and Right of Way Certifications or ability to obtain within two months
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to work non-standard hours including weekends and holidays
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks
Job Duties
- Ensure the field surface is always in optimal condition for professional baseball events
- Provide administrative and managerial oversight of the grounds department
- Perform all aspects of field maintenance including mowing, fertilizing, rebuilding pitching mounds and home plate areas, dragging, moisture management, field marking, edging, aerating, topdressing, verticutting, replacing sod, and tarping
- Facilitate additional on-field events such as high school and college baseball games and non-baseball events
- Prepare the field free of irregularities in playing surfaces that may pose safety issues
- Manage relationships with third party service providers for facility services beyond internal resource capabilities
- Lead the ground crew team by developing daily work plans to support baseball and business operations
- Operate and maintain all facility and grounds equipment safely and keep equipment in excellent working condition
- Train and supervise grounds staff on safe and productive equipment use
- Maintain and calibrate equipment for chemical and fertilizer applications
- Keep the grounds area and equipment clean and organized
- Assist Field Operations Manager with supervision, training, and evaluation of grounds staff
- Develop daily, weekly, and long-term project assignments
- Manage materials inventory
- Develop an annual budget including payroll and equipment maintenance approval
- Perform safety inspections and repairs of facility equipment such as safety screens, mats, tarps, nets, cages, benches, fencing, padding, and backstops
- Communicate clearly and work well with employees, coaches, and players
- Adhere to consistent attendance and flexible work schedules
- Perform other duties as assigned
