Job Requirements

  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a food service environment
  • Associate degree in HRI or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license with clean recent driving record
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Google platforms
  • Experience with menu and inventory management systems preferred
  • Experience with POS system
  • Culinary knowledge and/or experience
  • RI Food Safety Management License or Serv Safe equivalency required or must obtain within one year
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work independently
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Sensitivity to diverse populations
  • Willingness to promote a diverse and inclusive campus community
  • Ability to work 45-50 hours per week including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, and lift/move products up to 50 pounds
  • Use personal protective equipment per guidelines
  • Must wear cut resistance gloves when handling sharp instruments

Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Hospitality, Restaurant, and Institutional management or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in food service environment

  • Culinary knowledge and/or experience

Job Duties

  • Supervise staff within dining operations including union, student, and temporary employees
  • Assist managers in defining labor needs and target hours
  • Check in staff, assign work tasks, and fill vacant positions as necessary
  • Train, direct, coach, counsel, and evaluate staff to maintain high standards of quality, customer service, safety, and sanitation
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal food safety guidelines and promote the department's commitment to customer service
  • Oversee cash handling, inventory control, and security of facilities and equipment
  • Assist in marketing and merchandising dining products and services
  • Participate in department and university meetings and actively engage in professional development opportunities
  • Supervise multiple dining units including residential halls, retail locations, convenience stores, catering services, and faculty club
  • Manage approximately 50 employees per shift, rotating among various tasks and units with combined sales of about $30 million annually
