Job Requirements
- Must be able to operate mixers, stoves, microwaves, blending equipment, coffee makers, ovens occasionally, and slicers
- Must be able to proficiently use sharp cooking utensils such as knives
- Must have the ability to understand directions
- Must have the ability to read, write, understand and speak English
- Must be able to multitask and work with high flexibility
- Must adhere to all terms and conditions in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively with staff, residents, and families
- Special care or dementia care employees will have additional training in dementia care
- High school graduate or GED
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Six months to one year related experience preferred
- Ability to learn basic computer applications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with dietary staff, residents, families and other community staff
- Ability to follow directions and understand English
- Ability to multitask and work with flexibility
- Training in dementia care protocols is a plus
Job Duties
- Assists cook as needed
- Carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator
- Prepares nourishments according to community procedures
- Executes the sanitation process including washing tables and chairs in the dining room, sweeping and mopping floors, taking trash to the dumpster, washing dishes and silverware, and cleaning kitchen equipment as assigned
- Assists with meal service duties such as setting tables, working the meal tray serving line, serving meal trays to residents, checking meal trays for accuracy, clearing tables, pushing food carts to nursing wings, communicating with residents during meals, and assisting with cleanup
- Follows all safety and security guidelines and procedures for residents
- Maintains effective communication with residents and their families
- Provides care and services following dementia care protocols
- Participates in educational and training activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
