Job Requirements

  • high school graduate or general education degree (ged)
  • six months to one year related experience preferred
  • ability to learn basic computer applications
  • ability to operate mixers, stoves, microwaves, blending equipment, coffee makers, ovens, slicer
  • proficient use of sharp cooking utensils
  • ability to understand directions
  • ability to read, write, understand and speak english
  • ability to multi-task and work with high degree of flexibility
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work with dietary staff, residents, families and other community staff
  • adherence to all terms and conditions set forth in the united church homes employee handbook

Job Duties

  • assists cook as needed
  • carries pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator
  • prepares nourishments according to community procedures
  • executes the sanitation process by washing tables and chairs in the dining room, sweeping and mopping the dining room floor, taking trash to the dumpster, washing dishes and silverware, putting clean dishes and silverware away, assisting with cleaning of equipment and kitchen, maintaining clean, neat, and orderly work areas
  • assists with meal service duties such as setting dining room tables for meals, working on meal tray serving line, serving meal trays to residents, checking meal trays for accuracy, clearing tables of dishes and trash, pushing food carts to nursing wings, communicating with residents during meal times, assisting with clean-up after meals and preparation for next meal
  • follows safety and security guidelines for residents in the unit
  • maintains effective communication with residents and their families
  • provides care following appropriate dementia care protocols
  • participates in educational and training activities
  • performs all other duties as assigned
