Job Requirements

  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Prefer six (6) months experience working in a food and beverage environment
  • Able to safely operate standard household equipment such as dishwasher, iron, vacuum, washer, dryer
  • Able to operate standard office equipment
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn the theory and practice of assisted living and dementia care
  • Able to work with seniors and patiently interact with cognitively impaired individuals
  • Able to be flexible, adapt and respond to change, make decisions in stressful situations and prioritize tasks and projects
  • Able to process information and apply common sense understanding to follow and carry out written or oral instructions
  • Able to analyze, solve and respond to problems or concerns
  • Able to read, write and speak the English language and to interact effectively with employees, supervisors, physicians, health care professionals, residents, and their families
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Able to obtain and maintain valid Food Handler's certification as needed
  • Be mobile and able to perform physical requirements of the job
  • Good physical health verified by a health screening including a chest x-ray or intradermal test result not more than six months prior or seven days after employment.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food and beverage service preferred
  • Ability to safely operate household and office equipment
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn assisted living and dementia care principles
  • Patience and professionalism working with seniors and cognitively impaired individuals
  • Strong communication skills in English both verbal and written
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible under changing conditions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Valid Food Handler's certification or ability to obtain
  • Physical capability to meet job demands.

Job Duties

  • Serve meals to residents, family members and visitors in a professional, dignified, efficient and courteous manner
  • Bring, serve, prepare and refill beverages including water, coffee, soda, wine, beer, and cocktails in appropriate glasses
  • Open and serve wine and beer as applicable
  • Stock bar with wine, beer, liquor, mixers and garnishes
  • Submit requests to Executive Chef regarding products to order
  • Accurately take residents and guests' food and beverage orders and enter them into the POS system
  • Properly input to-go and take-out orders as well as employee meals
  • Verify food matches items ordered on POS and ensure orders reflect special requests
  • Assist residents with menu selections and provide information on menu item preparation
  • Ensure plates are presentable before serving
  • Bring and serve food using trays and tray stands
  • Assure compliance with proper serving techniques and etiquette
  • Properly set up dining room tables and server stations
  • Bus tables and return dishes to the kitchen
  • Clean tables and chairs, sweep, vacuum and pick up floor areas
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and clutter-free work environment
  • Assist in food inventory and kitchen duties such as washing dishes when needed
  • Deliver meals to resident rooms as required
  • Respond to resident concerns and complaints professionally
  • Demonstrate knowledge of each resident as an individual
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations concerning the department
  • Participate in daily huddle meetings
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, residents, and guests
  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and follow policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Support a positive and professional environment by adhering to employee handbook guidelines
  • Attend scheduled in-services and training
  • Maintain required certifications and licensures
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule including holidays, evenings, weekends, and additional shifts
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions
  • Support marketing efforts through friendly interactions
  • Communicate any observed or suspected resident change of condition to the Assisted Living/Memory Care Department.
