Job Requirements

  • United States citizenship
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) credential with Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university
  • Completion of ACEND accredited experiential or supervised practice program
  • Non-credentialed dietitians at GS-07 or GS-09 levels may be given temporary appointment under specific conditions
  • For GS-09 and above, at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or a Master’s degree
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including distant vision of 20/40 in one eye, field of vision of 70 degrees, color vision to distinguish red, green, amber, and hearing ability
  • Compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Knowledge of virtual technologies to provide nutrition care

Job Qualifications

  • United States citizenship

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent
  • Completion of ACEND accredited experiential or supervised practice program with verification statement
  • Ability to deliver patient care using the NCP (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, evaluation)
  • Knowledge of various accrediting and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to apply evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes
  • Skill in interpreting research
  • Ability to develop patient-centered goals
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders
  • Knowledge and skill in virtual care technology
  • Ability to collect data for performance improvement studies

Job Duties

  • Coordinate nutritional care of Veterans with healthcare providers, the Veteran, the Veteran's caregiver, and the community
  • Interpret research and apply whole health principles to develop patient-centered goals and improve outcomes
  • Conduct nutrition assessments for patients utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP)
  • Collaborate with the Food Operations Section to enhance the Veterans' dining experience and ensure patient satisfaction
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of clinical activities and complete patient encounters using approved systems
  • Utilize virtual technology to improve access to nutrition care
  • Collect and analyze data for performance improvement studies and assist in implementing new initiatives
