Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one to two years experience as a cook in a large scale cooking operation preferred
  • ability to read and write
  • ability to operate kitchen utensils and equipment
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • capacity to follow recipes and prepare meals according to menu specifications
  • physical ability to perform kitchen duties including washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding produce
  • dependable and punctual
  • ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepare meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes
  • use nutritionally equivalent substitutes when required
  • operate various kitchen utensils and equipment such as blender, mixer, fryer, slicer, steamer, food processor, convection oven, stove, conventional oven, steam table, and tilt skillet
  • wash, peel, cut, and shred vegetables and fruits
  • test and observe food by tasting for palatability
  • slice portions of meat for individual servings
  • add gravies, sauces, and garnishes as required
  • assist with special function meals
  • complete work assignments
  • follow food safety procedures
  • support administrative responsibilities related to food service
  • uphold residents rights and safety standards
  • participate in staff development activities
