Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • one to two years related experience and/or training preferred
  • meets state and federal requirements
  • ability to stand, sit, stoop, push, pull, lift over 75 pounds, bend, climb, twist upper body, walk, run, carry, listen, talk, use telephone
  • must be able to speak, understand and read English
  • ability to comply with safety and infection control procedures
  • availability to work day shift 6am to 2pm
  • part-time availability

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • one to two years related experience and/or training preferred
  • knowledge of food preparation and safety practices
  • ability to follow diet cards and individualized care plans
  • good verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and hygienic standards
  • familiarity with OSHA and infection control standards
  • ability to document and report accurately
  • capacity to work collaboratively with nursing and supervisory staff

Job Duties

  • Assists with preparation and provision of food and snacks to resident(s) per diet cards and/or other documented individualized plan for resident(s)
  • prepares supplies/materials for tray line
  • assembles, loads and delivers diet trays per diet cards and/or other documented plan tailored to resident(s)
  • provides set-up assistance for resident(s)
  • reports refusals of food to supervisor and nursing
  • serves food substitutes
  • retrieves and reloads trays on cart at end of meal service
  • observes proper safety practices including operating institutional food preparation equipment according to instructions
  • uses personal protective equipment as necessary
  • handles, unloads, stocks and stores food safely
  • uses and stores chemicals properly
  • follows infection control procedures
  • timely corrects and/or reports equipment problems, safety and fire hazards, environmental services and maintenance issues
  • maintains clean, safe and hygienic food service workspace
  • regularly cleans equipment, trays, dishes, trash, and other items
  • inspects for and reports evidence of pests
  • properly reports injuries and/or incidents, equipment and/or maintenance problems
  • complies with OSHA mandates and workplace safety practices including hazard communication, blood borne pathogens, infection control practices, fire safety and proper lifting techniques
  • carries out assigned duties in emergencies to assure employee and resident safety
  • assists with quality assessment and assurance functions as directed
  • maintains proper documentation including nutritional screening, food preferences, food acceptance and food/fluid-related interventions
  • assists with survey processes as directed
  • maintains and applies current skills and knowledge through continuing education and in-service programs
  • carries out responsibilities in compliance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and facility philosophy, policies and procedures
  • communicates in English effectively
  • assists with development and update of food service policies and procedures
  • performs physical activities including standing, sitting, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting over 75 pounds, bending, climbing, twisting upper body, walking, running, carrying, listening, talking, use of telephone, and exposure to medical equipment and persons with risk of illness
