Job Requirements

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • none, on-the-job training is provided
  • ability to comply with infection control and safety regulations
  • capability to manage physical tasks including cleaning and food service duties
  • strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients, residents, family members and staff
  • ability to follow detailed procedural guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Functional literacy
  • ability to follow dietary and safety procedures
  • strong communication skills
  • preferred previous food service and/or food preparation experience
  • preferred experience in long term care dietary service
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • ability to attend continuing educational programs and mandatory in-services

Job Duties

  • Follows diet orders and NPO diet orders
  • assists cook in preparing meals, desserts and/or snacks for patients/residents
  • uses proper food handling processes, procedures and policies
  • delivers trays to patients/residents on halls
  • delivers and serves meals to patients/residents in dining area
  • prepares between-meal nourishments and serves in accordance with procedural guidelines
  • offers menu substitutions and records them in accordance with procedural guidelines
