Job Requirements

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • No previous experience required, on-the-job training provided
  • Ability to follow dietary and NPO diet orders
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment such as coffee/tea maker, dish machine, garbage disposal, mixer, blender, meat slicer and steamer
  • Compliance with infection control and safety procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, residents and family members

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Previous food service and/or food preparation experience preferred
  • Long term care dietary experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate warmly and professionally with patients, residents, clients and family members
  • Knowledge of proper food handling and safety procedures
  • Ability to follow established safety regulations and infection control policies
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education and mandatory in-services

Job Duties

  • Follows diet orders and NPO diet orders
  • Assists cook in preparing meals, desserts and/or snacks for patients/residents
  • Uses proper food handling processes, procedures and policies
  • Delivers trays to patients/residents on halls
  • Delivers and serves meals to patients/residents in dining area, food and beverages
  • Prepares between-meal nourishments and serves in accordance with procedural guidelines
  • Offers menu substitutions and records them in accordance with procedural guidelines
