Job Requirements

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • No prior experience required, on-the-job training provided
  • Ability to follow diet orders accurately
  • Capacity to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Ability to perform cleaning, sanitizing tasks and maintain equipment
  • Adherence to infection control and safety policies
  • Capability to handle physical aspects of the job including lifting and standing for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Previous food service or food preparation experience preferred
  • Experience in long-term care dietary services preferred
  • Ability to follow procedural guidelines and safety regulations
  • Effective communication skills
  • Willingness to participate in training and educational programs
  • Comfortable working in a community healthcare environment
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Assist with food preparation in adherence to procedural guidelines
  • Follow diet orders and NPO diet orders
  • Assist cook in preparing meals, desserts and snacks
  • Deliver trays to patients and residents on halls
  • Deliver and serve meals and beverages in dining areas
  • Prepare and serve between-meal nourishments
  • Offer menu substitutions and record them per guidelines
  • Follow procedures for serving partner meals
  • Communicate warmly and professionally with patients, residents, family members, and visitors
  • Clean tables in dining areas after meals
  • Clean work areas at shift end including sweeping and mopping
  • Remove garbage and hose out containers
  • Comply with infection control policies
  • Scrape and wash dishes, pots, and pans
  • Record freezer and refrigerator temperatures
  • Check and store stock properly
  • Store cleaning materials properly
  • Set up tray line and perform tray line service
  • Store leftovers properly
  • Make coffee and tea as requested
  • Clean kitchen equipment including carts, tables, counters, ice machines, and more
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as coffee makers, dish machines, and meat slicers
  • Follow standardized recipes
  • Use serving utensils appropriately
  • Check and record water and dishwasher temperatures
  • Monitor chemical levels and replace as needed
  • Participate in license and accreditation surveys
  • Attend continuing education and mandatory in-service trainings
  • Honor patients' rights
  • Comply with corporate compliance program
  • Report occupational hazards
  • Follow safety regulations and procedures when performing tasks and using equipment
