Job Requirements

  • Minimum education required is sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • no previous experience required as on-the-job training is provided
  • ability to follow established safety and infection control regulations
  • physical ability to perform cleaning and food handling tasks
  • good communication skills
  • reliability and professionalism
  • ability to work in a team-oriented environment

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • previous food service and/or food preparation experience preferred
  • long term care dietary experience is preferred
  • ability to communicate effectively with patients, residents, family members and team members
  • knowledge of food safety and infection control practices
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • attention to detail and ability to follow procedural guidelines
  • willingness to participate in continuing education and in-service training

Job Duties

  • Follows diet orders and NPO diet orders
  • assists cook in preparing meals, desserts and/or snacks for patients/residents
  • uses proper food handling processes, procedures and policies
  • delivers trays to patients/residents on halls
  • delivers and serves meals to patients/residents in dining area
  • prepares between-meal nourishments and serves in accordance with procedural guidelines
  • offers menu substitutions and records them in accordance with procedural guidelines
