- Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
- must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

- must possess ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public

- must have functional sight and hearing or use prosthetics

- must meet general health requirements including medical and physical exams
- must relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and hostile individuals
- must be able to push, pull, move and lift at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight for at least 50 feet
- must be able to taste and smell food for quality

- preferred one year food experience in supervisory capacity in healthcare setting

Job Duties
- Process diet changes and new diets received from nursing services
- perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports
- inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet is served
- coordinate food and nutrition services with other departments
- assist in establishing food service production lines
- ensure that menus are maintained and filed
- review menus prior to food preparation
- assist in standardizing work methods
- ensure all food procedures are followed according to facility policies
- assume authority and responsibility of cook
- sweep and mop floors as directed
- prepare food according to standardized recipes, planned menus, and special diet orders
- prepare and serve bedtime snacks
- serve meals that are palatable and appetizing
- prepare substitute foods for residents refusing food
- ensure appropriate equipment and utensils are provided
- serve food with established portion control
- report occupational exposures to the Certified Dietary Manager
- attend mandatory in-service training programs
- attend workshops and seminars as directed
- assist with cleaning duties
- dispose of food and waste properly
- prepare food following sanitary regulations
- follow infection control policies
- ensure safety regulations are followed
- maintain clean and safe department conditions
- report accidents and hazardous conditions
- assist with inventory and storage
- assist in food preparation for special meals and parties
- make authorized food substitutions
- assist in timely serving of meals
