Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Some experience in law enforcement or corrections preferred
- Ability to work variable shifts including overtime
- Ability to use physical restraint when necessary
- Ability to operate firearms and related equipment
- Willingness to submit to random drug and alcohol testing
- Ability to maintain constant vigilance and alertness
- Ability to attend work regularly and reliably
- Ability to operate computer systems and data entry
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
Job Qualifications
- Completion of high school or GED equivalency
- Some experience working with law enforcement or corrections
- Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes regarding detention
- Good knowledge of correctional and detention methods, practices, and procedures
- Good knowledge of direct supervision techniques and human behavior modification methods
- Ability to read and interpret court orders and legal documents
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and law enforcement agencies
- Ability to observe and monitor behavior for compliance
- Skill in operation of photography and fingerprinting equipment
- Skill in operation and care of weapons and firearms as required
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Ability to write clear and concise reports
- Ability to analyze emergency situations calmly and effectively
- Ability to maintain detailed records
- Ability to work flexible shifts
Job Duties
- Conducts daily inspection and maintenance of housing units and facilities to ensure proper security
- Performs security and direct supervision duties within inmate housing units to maintain custody and control the activities of inmates
- Maintains a complete and accurate count of all inmates and their locations within the facility
- Orients inmates to housing units ensuring all inmates understand facility rules
- Maintains schedules for inmates allowing exercise times, meals, showering, class attendance, medical visits, unit cleaning, laundry exchange, mail delivery, and visitation
- Conducts surveillance, unit searches, and shakedowns to locate and confiscate fabricated weapons and contraband
- Prepares written incident reports documenting rule violations, offenses, or unusual events
- Responds to emergencies such as fights, hostage incidents, riots, and incidents involving aggressive inmates
- Provides security for medical staff during medicine distribution and physical examinations
- Receives and searches incoming inmates, reviews admission forms, fingerprints, photographs, and completes booking paperwork
- Transports inmates within the facility and to external appointments, maintaining security
- Monitors facility operation via technical equipment such as cameras and door lock controls
