Job Requirements
- Must be a minimum of 19 years old at time of appointment
- Must maintain a valid Florida driver's license
- Must pass swimming and physical agility tests prior to application
- Must be Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officer or willing to attend police academy
- No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving perjury or false statement
- Submit certified driving history with application
- Willingness to commit two years to Aviation Unit
- Ability to act with independence and discretion in emergency situations
- Must meet FAA medical standards
- Must submit all required certification and documentation with application
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Division of Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC)
- Commercial Pilot’s License for rotary wing aircraft
- Instrument rated pilot license
- Valid Florida driver license without restrictions affecting job performance
- One hundred hours rotorcraft-helicopter night flight time
- Five hundred flight hours as pilot-in-command rotorcraft-helicopter
- FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate
- Successful completion of Florida Swimming and Physical Agility tests
- Good moral character as verified by background investigation
Job Duties
- Command and operate helicopters during specialized and selective law enforcement activities
- Perform flight operations within the Aviation Division
- Enforce laws and ordinances to protect life and property
- Act independently in emergency situations using discretion
- Participate in training and maintain required certifications
- Respond to administrative direction and report on operational activities
- Adhere to all safety and operational protocols related to aviation and law enforcement
