Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum one year of experience as a dental assistant or graduation from an ADA accredited dental assisting program
- Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon) required
- Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate (Oregon) within 6 months of hire required
- Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon) within 3 months of hire required
- Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire required
- Demonstrated competence in four-handed dentistry technique
- Satisfactory knowledge of dental materials, instruments, and equipment
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under supervision
- Well organized in use of time and effort
- Demonstrated capacity to act in a professionally courteous manner
- Excellent attendance record
- Must pass clinical pre-employment skills test
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED

- Basic knowledge of sterilization and infection control preferred
Job Duties
- Apply topical anesthetic and desensitizing agents as directed by the provider
- Remove sutures and post-extraction dressings
- Retract patient’s cheek, tongue, or tissue during operations
- Assist with placement and removal of rubber dam
- Remove debris during procedures with vacuum and water
- Perform extra-oral procedures that are non-hazardous
- Inspect oral cavity using mirror
- Dry root canals with paper points
- Place temporary filling material in endodontic access
- Take impressions for periodontal night guards
- Polish tooth surfaces free of calculus
- Train patients in oral hygiene techniques
- Place, adjust equipment for, and expose dental radiographs
- Select and size orthodontic bands
- Remove fixed orthodontic appliances and ligature ties
- Place and remove arch wires, elastics, and separators
- Take intra-oral measurements for orthodontic procedures
- Remove excess bonding material
- Organize and verify patient dental records
- Greet and inform patients per Kaiser Permanente guidelines
- Review health questionnaires with patients
- Promote patient emotional comfort
- Answer patient questions as directed by provider
- Anticipate provider needs during care delivery
- Manage patient scheduling flow information
- Prepare, organize, and pass dental instruments and materials
- Maintain clean and sterile equipment and work environment
- Record patient care information accurately
- Use automated scheduling system for patient and provider data
- Respond to medical emergencies per guidelines
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance of equipment
- Assist with nitrous oxide monitoring
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with training and experience
