Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of dental assistant experience or completion of an accredited dental assisting program
  • Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate required
  • Obtain Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate within six months of hire
  • Obtain Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate within three months of hire
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire
  • Demonstrated competence in four-handed dentistry technique
  • Proficiency with current dental materials, instruments, and equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under direct and indirect supervision
  • Well organized and able to manage time efficiently
  • Demonstrated capacity to maintain professional courtesy in patient and coworker interactions
  • Excellent attendance
  • Ability to pass clinical pre-employment skills test
  • Willingness to travel to multiple dental office locations as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience as a dental assistant or graduate from an ADA accredited dental assisting program
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon)
  • Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate (Oregon) within six months of hire
  • Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon) within three months of hire
  • Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire
  • Demonstrated competence in four-handed dentistry technique
  • Knowledge of current dental materials, instruments, and equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional courtesy and good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Ability to pass clinical pre-employment skills test

Job Duties

  • Perform all duties permitted to a dental assistant consistent with training and under licensed provider observation
  • Apply topical anesthetic and desensitizing agents as directed
  • Remove sutures and post-extraction and periodontal dressings
  • Retract patient cheek, tongue, or other tissue during operations
  • Assist in placement or removal of rubber dams
  • Remove debris during procedures with vacuum, air, or water
  • Inspect oral cavity using mirrors
  • Take dental radiographs including preparation and exposure
  • Organize patient dental records and ensure readiness for providers
  • Greet and inform patients about treatments
  • Review health questionnaires and notify providers of conditions
  • Promote patient comfort and confidence
  • Communicate with patients regarding care as directed
  • Anticipate provider needs and maintain clear, clean operating field
  • Record and verify patient care information accurately
  • Use scheduling systems to manage patient flow
  • Respond to medical emergencies as needed
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain infection control
  • Perform preventive maintenance on dental equipment
  • Place matrix retainers and polish restorations
  • Remove excess cement and take detailed dental impressions
  • Fabricate temporary crowns and assist with nitrous oxide monitoring
  • Travel to other dental office locations as required
  • Perform other duties assigned by management within training and experience
