Job Qualifications
- Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Ability to count accurately
- Able to give and receive complex verbal instructions and descriptions
- Stable work and educational history
- Proficient in reading and writing English including instructions, merchandise labels, order codes, numbers, reports and invoices
- Good judgment regarding merchandise placement, case opening, product damage assessment, customer interaction, product selling, and packaging use
- Ability to open cases and stock products without damage
- Ability to clearly price mark and label products
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in similar roles preferred
- Experience operating baler, case cutter, cleaning/sanitation equipment, pallet jack, intercom, pricing gun, knives, slicer, scales, steam table, wrapper, fryer, stove preferred (must be 18 or older to operate some equipment).
Job Duties
- Greet all customers, respond to customer questions/requests, explain store policies courteously
- Wrap, package, and sell deli products including sandwiches, pizza, salads, sliced fruits, vegetables, sliced meats, cheese, desserts, party trays, garnishes, samples, and fried foods
- Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash register, scanner and scale
- Review and follow daily updates from the perishable department Communication Board including Sampling Program and intercom announcements
- Prepare and organize cooler/freezer/preparation areas for merchandise receipt, unload trucks, verify and inspect deliveries for shortages, damage and quality, sort cases for stocking or preparation, code-date case items
- Adhere to health codes and clean department floors, mirrors, cases, tables, production equipment, and product preparation areas using cleaning equipment and chemicals safely
- Transport cases to sales floor/cooler/freezer and stock merchandise in designated positions, check product freshness and rotate stock
- Ensure safety by practicing store safety rules, notifying supervisors of hazards and removing broken containers and debris immediately
- Operate equipment including baler, case cutter, pallet jack, intercom, pricing gun, slicer, scales, wrapper, steam table, fryer, stove as authorized
- Evaluate product quality, handle damaged or unsalable products according to policy
- Check case and cooler/freezer temperatures four times daily and record
- Report out-of-stock conditions to department manager
- Stock display cases, counters and tables throughout the store
- Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned, substitute for absent workers, and support services during peak business periods.
