Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency degree
  • Minimum 4 years professional experience
  • Preferred 3-5 years grocery retail experience in deli/bakery department processes and procedures
  • Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus
  • Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times
  • Ability to adapt to the ever changing high volume retail environment
  • Capacity to take initiative when problems arise
  • Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations
  • Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel

Job Duties

  • Prepare weekly sales and labor projections to maximize sales and profits
  • Monitor and control costs including ordering, inventory control, weighing procedures, shrink control, and ad displays
  • Manage Deli/Bakery staff including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and conducting performance reviews
  • Oversee shift operations and approve department work schedules
  • Ensure weekly flyer ads products are stocked and available for sale
  • Stock deli/bakery cases, including product presentation, facing, filling, and pricing accuracy
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of deli/bakery aisles, storage, and work areas
  • Assist customers at the deli/bakery counter by providing product information and promoting sales
  • Receive, inspect and log product shipments for accuracy, temperature, and quality
  • Monitor product rotation and discard expired or spoiled items
  • Balance department general ledger and financial statements, ensuring margin compliance
  • Manage inventory control to prevent out-of-stocks or over-stocks
  • Use scales, weights, and tares accurately to package, label, and date products
  • Monitor temperatures during production of deli, cheese, and bakery items
  • Maintain high product knowledge and preparation standards
  • Conduct regular department walks to ensure organization, sanitation, and cleanliness
  • Perform other duties as assigned
