Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • background verification check
  • read staff policy and procedure handbook and sign understanding
  • fill out required personnel forms
  • complete and pass a physical
  • wear hairnet or hat while in the kitchen
  • have 4 hours of food and nutrition training
  • be able to lift to forty pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or certificate or license
  • minimum of four hours of annual training in menu planning, DPI training, food safety and nutrition, and other food related topics
  • ability to lift up to forty pounds
  • background verification check
  • complete and pass a physical
  • knowledge of food and nutrition standards
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a kitchen setting
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Prepare weekly menus that reflect all Department of Public Instructions requirements
  • work with Administration Team for approval
  • prepare breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks for all classrooms
  • serve meals to each classroom on time, at the appropriate temperature
  • deliver lunch service to a second site with documented food temperatures
  • work with staff to collect meal numbers before food preparation
  • prepare appropriate amounts of food meeting DPI guidelines
  • maintain daily production reports
  • make weekly food orders through vendors
  • maintain a clean and organized kitchen including all food storage areas
  • ensure thermometers are working properly
  • check all food items for expiration dates
  • wash and sanitize all dishes
  • clean kitchen and appliances throughout the day
  • remove trash and recyclables daily
  • organize and put away groceries, food orders and non-food items
  • turn in all kitchen expense receipts and CN labels to Administration Team
  • protect privacy and confidentiality of information
  • build positive relationships and communicate respectfully with families, children, team members, administration, Board of Directors, and community
