Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current automobile insurance
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • Ability to work under stress and respond to emergencies
  • Reliable transportation for supply pickup and delivery

Job Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • Experience working in an industrial kitchen or in the food service industry
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience working with homeless or at-risk youth preferred
  • Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment in involving others when necessary
  • Experience with a positive youth development and harm reduction approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High reliability and integrity
  • Positive attitude and willingness to do what it takes to meet youth needs
  • Good crisis management skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations well
  • Knowledge of homelessness and its impact on youth
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds
  • Reliable form of transportation for delivery and pickup of SafeZone supplies
  • A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance are required

Job Duties

  • Manage and execute all food service operations at SafeZone, preparing and serving hot meals daily and providing meals to go
  • Manage kitchen inventory and create supply lists weekly for meals, snack bags, and food safety, serving and handling needs
  • Procure and pick up food and supplies from partner agencies working food rescue items into meals
  • Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with Minnesota Department of Health guidelines
  • Maintain clean, organized, and tidy kitchen space, following recommended daily cleaning tasks
  • Provide excellent customer service while serving meals
  • Engage youth at the center in a meaningful and respectful manner while assisting them
  • Respond to crises and de-escalate situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Collect and record appropriate data, complete paperwork, and stay current with monthly trainings
  • Refer youth to agencies for supportive services, case management, and mental health support
  • Lead and work with volunteers on various kitchen tasks and during events
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and events
  • Provide all services guided by evidence-based principles for helping youth overcome homelessness
  • Perform other duties as assigned
