Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years experience in food service or industrial kitchen
- Experience working with homeless or at-risk youth preferred
- Ability to manage kitchen inventory and food procurement
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle crisis situations calmly
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
- Reliable transportation for supply pickup and delivery
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and stand for long periods
- Capacity to work in all weather conditions
- Willingness to attend trainings and staff meetings
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
Job Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent required
- Experience working in an industrial kitchen or in the food service industry
- Minimum of 2 years work experience working with homeless or at-risk youth preferred
- Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment in involving others when necessary
- Experience with a positive youth development and harm reduction approach
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- High reliability and integrity
- Positive attitude and willingness to do what it takes to meet youth needs
- Good crisis management skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations well
- Knowledge of homelessness and its impact youth
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds
- Reliable form of transportation for delivery and pickup of SafeZone supplies
- A valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance are required
Job Duties
- Manage and execute all food service operations at SafeZone, preparing/serving hot meals daily and providing meals to go
- Manage kitchen inventory and create supply lists weekly for meals, snack bags, and food safety/serving/handling needs
- Procure and pick up food and supplies from partner agencies working food rescue items into meals
- Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with MN Department of Health Guidelines
- Maintain clean, organized, and tidy kitchen space, following recommended daily cleaning tasks
- Provide excellent customer service while serving meals
- Engage with youth at the center in a meaningful and respectful manner while assisting them
- Respond to crises and de-escalate situations in a calm and professional manner
- Collect and record appropriate data, complete paperwork, and stay current with monthly trainings
- Refer youth to agencies for supportive services, case management and mental health support
- Lead and work with volunteers on various kitchen tasks and during events
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and events
- Provides all services guided by the evidence-based principles for helping youth overcome homelessness
- Perform other duties as assigned
