Job Requirements
- Bachelor degree minimum
- At least 3 years of customs compliance experience
- US Customs Broker License or equivalent certification preferred
- Knowledge of import/export regulations and government agency procedures
- Ability to collaborate with government agencies and internal teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in using office equipment and compliance software
- Availability to work in a hybrid office environment
- Preferred location in Chicago, IL or Laredo, TX
- Ability to manage multiple compliance tasks and deadlines
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of bachelor degree
- At least 3 years of customs compliance experience
- US Customs Broker License, Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) preferred
- Knowledge of applicable governmental regulations
- Experience working with US international trade regulatory agencies including CBP, TSA, OFAC, and FMC
Job Duties
- Assist with establishing, maintaining and implementing company-wide policies and procedures regarding legal compliance for import, export and domestic transactions
- Support and partner with governmental agencies such as US Customs and Border Protection, Bureau of Industry and Security, Census, Department of State, TSA, US Department of Agriculture, FDA, EPA, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Department of Transportation to ensure compliance
- Ensure proper documentation of compliance activities including updating policies based on new laws or regulations
- Assist with implementation, utilization and maintenance of C-TPAT, ACE Portal, and related compliance programs in collaboration with compliance team and senior management
- Provide corporate oversight of penalties, resolution, CF 28/CF 29 and other requests from governmental agencies
- Conduct compliance violation investigations and recommend resolutions to senior management
- Collaborate with outside parties including government agencies, legal counsel and insurance carriers as necessary
- Provide guidance on compliance to employees and assist with ticketing system management
- Develop and implement company-wide audit procedures to ensure compliance and provide regular audit reports to senior management
- Offer general guidance for clients on import/export restrictions, requirements and tariffs
- Serve as part of the CargoWise Support Team to assist with troubleshooting compliance procedures
- Develop and implement training programs to educate staff on compliance regulations and industry practices
- Organize seminars and communications to disseminate compliance policies and procedures
- Represent the corporate compliance team at conferences, meetings and other events
