  • A bachelor's degree and five years of related experience and/or training
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Customs Broker License required
  • Must have experience in basic corporate import/export requirements, international trade laws (classification, valuation, country of origin determination, country of origin marking, INCO terns, documentation, cross-border practices
  • Financial acumen – understands business drivers
  • Ability to interact with Customs & Border Protection personnel at all levels
  • An advanced understanding of CFR Title 19
  • Section 111, Subpart C which addresses the responsibilities of a U.S. Custom House Broker along with an advanced understanding of all other Parts contained within the CFR
  • An understanding of the Harmonized Tariff Schedules of the United States and product classification
  • An understanding of Customs valuation standards, valuation encyclopedia, along with international terms of sale
  • Understanding of Customs Modernization Act content and requirements
  • Understanding of Other Government Agency requirements
  • An understanding of processing through Customs Automated Commercial Environment especially the Automated Broker Interface module
  • An understanding of international ocean, air and cross border traffic and transportation
  • Complete familiarity with the primary Customs forms used in the processing of entries for U.S. Customs clearance, warehousing or in-bond movement

Job Duties

  • Supports the coordination of Customs Brokerage activities for the Customs compliance program
  • Executes these activities in support of the established Hellmann Compliance Program Policy and its practices, goals, and objectives
  • Performs the following duties personally or through designated personnel
  • Prepares Post Entry Work including PSCs, Protests and Petitions to assist in the company response to matters involving fines, penalties and forfeitures at the request and direction of the Customs Brokerage Compliance Manager and V.P. of Customs brokerage
  • Participates in and monitors operating activities and controls to promote compliance, communication and adequate information flow for the CHB Branches
  • Activities include but are not limited to monthly analysis and reporting of ABI error rates, branch performance, other government agency analysis and reporting, internal audit of transactions, preparation of post summary adjustments, and maintenance of reports such as ACE
  • Duty Paid and ISF reports
  • Prepares recommendations for non-conformances
  • Operates consistently under U.S. Customs compliance practices and supports execution
  • Adheres to compliance standards for all branch offices
  • Interacts with Customs Compliance Manager, CHB managers and Branch Manager and all staff regarding all compliance activities
  • Assist in training of personnel to ensure appropriate understanding of required procedures for customs and trade adherence
  • Training to include scheduled Hellmann webinar courses curriculum
  • Assist with the development of SOP’s for internal operations and external client support
  • Provides recommendations regarding process improvements, solutions, and action plans for areas of deficiency
  • Communicates with Customs at all levels including the Office of International Trade, local commodity specialists, inspection and control, broker management, and broker client manager
  • Assists in C-TPAT annual risk assessments and validation
  • Assists in maintenance and updating of Hellmann Compliance Program Policies Manual
  • Assists to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • adherence to company procedures and policies
  • Some Travel May be Required
