Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Must be referred for selection before reaching 40 years of age unless exempt
- Must complete paid pre-academy and 101-day academy training
- Must pass CBPO Entrance Exam
- Must be physically fit to perform law enforcement duties
- Must undergo background and security clearance checks
- Must complete online Spanish training if assigned to southern border or specific duty locations
Job Qualifications
- Three years of general work experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and ability to learn
- Bachelor’s degree or four-year course from an accredited college or university
- Combination of college education and work experience
- One year of specialized work experience equivalent to next lower grade level for GS-7
- Experience performing physical inspections for criminal activity, fraud, or illegal operations
- Knowledge of federal, state, or local laws and regulations
- Bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year of graduate education for GS-7
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience for GS-9 eligibility
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- Participating in ongoing training and law enforcement academy programs
- Collaborating with other law enforcement and homeland security agencies
