Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Must be referred before reaching 40th birthday unless exempt
- May qualify for Veterans Recruitment Appointment
- Must complete paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day CBP Field Operations Academy
- Must pass the CBPO Entrance Exam and any applicable Spanish training
- Must meet physical fitness and background investigation standards
- Must be willing to work at any assigned duty location
- Age restriction may be waived for certain federal law enforcement or military service
- Must possess valid documentation for employment eligibility
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating the ability to meet and deal with people and to apply a body of facts
- Or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Or a combination of college education and general work experience
- For GS-7 level, a minimum of one year specialized experience performing physical inspections and applying federal laws
- Bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year of graduate-level education for GS-7
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- Previous or current federal law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- Conducting physical inspections and utilizing investigative techniques
- Enforcing compliance with federal laws at border checkpoints
