Job Requirements

  • Three years of full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to deal with people and learn facts
  • OR bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
  • OR combination of college education and work experience
  • One year of specialized full-time work experience for GS-7 level
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years
  • Age below 40 at appointment unless exempted
  • Successful completion of formal training at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
  • Compliance with Veterans’ Preference if applicable
  • Completion of language training if assigned to specific locations

Job Qualifications

  • Possess three years of general work experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and ability to learn and apply facts
  • OR bachelor’s degree or full four-year course of study from an accredited institution
  • OR combination of college education and general work experience
  • For GS-7 level, possess one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GS-5 grade involving inspections, evaluating facts, and applying laws
  • OR bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement, one full year of graduate education, or combination thereof
  • Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience qualifies for GS-9 level
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years
  • Must meet age requirements as per DHS Directive 251-03
  • Successful completion of CBP Field Operations Academy and other training requirements

Job Duties

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
  • Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
  • Participating in ongoing training and professional development programs
  • Collaborating with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies
