Job Requirements
- Three years of full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to deal with people and learn facts
- OR bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
- OR combination of college education and work experience
- One year of specialized full-time work experience for GS-7 level
- U.S. citizenship
- Residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years
- Age below 40 at appointment unless exempted
- Successful completion of formal training at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
- Compliance with Veterans’ Preference if applicable
- Completion of language training if assigned to specific locations
Job Qualifications
- Possess three years of general work experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and ability to learn and apply facts
- OR bachelor’s degree or full four-year course of study from an accredited institution
- OR combination of college education and general work experience
- For GS-7 level, possess one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GS-5 grade involving inspections, evaluating facts, and applying laws
- OR bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement, one full year of graduate education, or combination thereof
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience qualifies for GS-9 level
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years
- Must meet age requirements as per DHS Directive 251-03
- Successful completion of CBP Field Operations Academy and other training requirements
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- Participating in ongoing training and professional development programs
- Collaborating with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies
