Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Must meet age restriction requirements (must be referred before 40th birthday unless exempt)
- Must complete a paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day CBP Field Operations Academy training
- Eligible veterans may qualify for an excepted service Veterans Recruitment Appointment
- Must comply with all application procedures including submitting resume, transcripts, and passing the CBPO Entrance Exam
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating the ability to meet and deal with people and learn and apply a body of facts
- A bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university
- A combination of successfully completed college education and general work experience
- Specialized full-time work experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level performing physical inspections for criminal activity, fraud, or illegal operations
- Utilizing observational techniques, evaluating facts, and reviewing documentation applying Federal, State, or local laws and regulations
- Making determinations in compliance with laws and regulations possibly leading to arrests, seizure of property, fines, or penalties
- A bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement based on class standing, GPA of 3.0 or higher, or honor society membership
- One full year of graduate-level education demonstrating required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- A combination of specialized work experience and graduate-level education from an accredited college or university
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9 grade level
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
