Job Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • Be under 40 years old at time of selection unless eligible for exceptions
  • Complete a paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
  • Eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment if applicable
  • Must submit resume, transcripts, and pass CBPO Entrance Exam

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and learn and apply a body of facts or a bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience
  • For GS-7 grade level, a minimum of one year of specialized full-time work experience performing physical inspections, utilizing observational techniques, evaluating facts, and applying laws and regulations or education substitution with a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or graduate level education
  • Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9 grade level
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years

Job Duties

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
  • facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
