Job Requirements
- U.S. citizen
- Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Under 40 years of age at referral unless exempt
- Ability to complete rigorous training including firearms and physical fitness
- Willingness to attend a paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day academy training
- Ability to pass the CBPO Entrance Exam
- Must provide official or unofficial transcripts if education is claimed
- Ability to work at one of the specified duty locations
- Submission of a complete application including resume and supporting documents
- Ability to comply with all applicable federal laws and CBP policies
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of three years full-time general work experience that demonstrates ability to interact with people and apply knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree or a full four-year course of study from an accredited university
- Combination of college education and general work experience
- Minimum of one year of specialized full-time work experience equivalent to a lower grade level involving physical inspections and evaluation of documents
- Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one full year of graduate-level education
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9 grade level
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must meet residency requirements
- Must be under 40 years of age at the time of referral or qualify for age exemption
- Successful completion of the CBP Field Operations Academy
- Mandatory Spanish training for certain duty locations
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- Completing required training at the CBP Field Operations Academy
- Participating in physical inspections and investigations to detect violations
