Job Requirements
- u.s. citizen
- primary u.s. residency for at least three of the last five years
- age under 40 at selection unless exempted
- pass CBP Entrance Exam
- complete pre-academy orientation and 101-day training academy
- physical fitness requirements
- able to attend online Spanish training if assigned to certain duty locations
- no felony convictions
- veterans’ preference eligibility if applicable
Job Qualifications
- a minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and ability to learn
- a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience for GS-5
- at least one year of specialized full-time work experience for GS-7
- knowledge of federal, state, or local laws and regulations
- strong observational and analytical skills
- ability to make legal determinations
- prior law enforcement or military experience for higher grade consideration
- U.S. citizenship
- residency requirements
- compliance with age restrictions or veterans’ preference
- successful completion of CBP training academy
Job Duties
- enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- assisting in maintaining border security
- collaborating with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies
