Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizen
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • Age under 40 at referral unless exempt due to prior federal law enforcement service
  • Ability to pass the CBP Entrance Exam
  • Successful completion of CBP Field Operations Academy training
  • Willingness to work at assigned duty locations including border and port cities
  • Ability to meet physical fitness standards
  • No disqualifying criminal history
  • Availability to work overtime
  • Ability to learn and apply federal laws and regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • One year of specialized work experience for GS-7 level
  • Ability to perform physical inspections and apply relevant laws
  • Strong observational and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws
  • Successful completion of CBP training academy
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to maintain security and confidentiality
  • Compliance with age and residency requirements

Job Duties

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
  • Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
  • Completing required reports and documentation
  • Collaborating with other law enforcement agencies
