Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Must be referred before reaching 40th birthday unless exempt due to prior federal civilian law enforcement service
- Eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment with no age restriction if veterans’ preference applies
- Must complete a paid pre-academy orientation and a 101-day CBP Field Operations Academy training program
- Candidates at certain duty locations must complete online Spanish training
- Ability to meet physical and legal standards
- Willingness to accept duty location based on agency needs
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and apply a body of facts
- Or a bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university
- Combination of college education and general work experience
- For GS-7, minimum of one year of specialized full-time work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level performing physical inspections and making determinations in compliance with laws and regulations
- Bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- Previous or current federal law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
