Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Age under 40 at time of selection unless exempt under federal law
- Completion of paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day training academy at FLETC
- Successful completion of Spanish language training for certain duty locations
- Ability to pass CBPO Entrance Exam
- No disqualifying criminal history
- Physical fitness and medical standards for law enforcement
- Veterans may qualify for age restriction exceptions
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to deal with people and apply knowledge
- A bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a four-year course of study
- Combination of college education and general work experience
- One year specialized full-time work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GS-7
- Bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education for GS-7
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforce customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitate the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determine the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Prevent illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods
- Detect and deter smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- Collaborate with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies
