Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- must be under 40 years of age at the time of selection unless exempt
- able to complete paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day CBP Field Operations Academy
- successful completion of academy required
- able to meet physical, fitness, and training standards
- willingness to accept duty locations including border crossings, airports, and seaports
- compliance with law enforcement retirement provisions
- eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment if applicable
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of three years full-time general work experience that demonstrates the ability to meet and deal with people and apply a body of facts
- or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- or a combination of successfully completed college education and general work experience
- a minimum of one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GS-7
- a bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one full year of graduate-level education for GS-7
- combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
- previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
