Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • must be under 40 years of age at the time of selection unless exempt
  • able to complete paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day CBP Field Operations Academy
  • successful completion of academy required
  • able to meet physical, fitness, and training standards
  • willingness to accept duty locations including border crossings, airports, and seaports
  • compliance with law enforcement retirement provisions
  • eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years full-time general work experience that demonstrates the ability to meet and deal with people and apply a body of facts
  • or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • or a combination of successfully completed college education and general work experience
  • a minimum of one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level for GS-7
  • a bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one full year of graduate-level education for GS-7
  • combination of specialized work experience and graduate education
  • previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9

Job Duties

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
  • facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
