Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- must be under 40 years old at time of selection unless exempt
- successful completion of paid pre-academy orientation and 101-day Field Operations Academy training
- ability to pass CBPO entrance exam
- compliance with law enforcement retirement provisions
- eligibility for Veterans Recruitment Appointment as applicable
Job Qualifications
- Minimum three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and apply a body of facts
- OR bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- OR combination of college education and general work experience
- For GS-7, minimum one year specialized work experience equivalent to next lower grade including physical inspections, use of observational techniques, and law application
- OR bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one full year graduate-level education
- OR combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education
- Prior law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods
- detecting and interdicting smuggling of illegal drugs and contraband
- collaborating with other law enforcement agencies
