Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Candidates must be referred before reaching their 40th birthday unless exempt due to prior federal law enforcement service
- Eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment if applicable with no age restriction
- Required to complete a paid pre-academy orientation and a 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
- Candidates at certain duty locations must complete an online Spanish training program
- Successful completion of the academy is mandatory
- Ability to pass the CBPO Entrance Exam
- Able to meet physical fitness standards
- Willingness to work in various duty locations including mission-critical border points
- Willingness to adhere to federal law enforcement standards and ethics
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating the ability to meet and deal with people and apply a body of facts
- Or a bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field from an accredited college or university
- Or a combination of college education and general work experience
- For GS-7, one year of specialized full-time work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level including performing inspections for criminal activity and applying laws
- Or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education
- Or a combination of specialized work experience and graduate-level education
- Previous or current federal law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9 grade level
- Must be a U.S. citizen
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
