Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- primary U.S. residency for three of the last five years
- age under 40 at time of selection unless exempt
- ability to complete training and pass examinations
- meet physical and medical requirements
- pass background and security investigations
- submit required application materials including resume and transcripts
Job Qualifications
- For GS-5: minimum of three years full-time general work experience
- bachelor’s degree or four-year course leading to a degree
- combination of education and experience
- for GS-7: one year specialized work experience performing physical inspections and applying laws
- bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one year graduate education
- combination of specialized experience and graduate education
- previous federal or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
- attending a 101-day training academy
- completing an online Spanish training program if assigned to specified duty locations
