Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizen
  • primary U.S. residency for three of the last five years
  • must meet age restriction of under 40 years unless exempt
  • eligible for Veterans Recruitment Appointment if applicable
  • willing and able to complete formal training including pre-academy orientation and Field Operations Academy
  • physical fitness and ability to perform law enforcement duties
  • clear background check
  • comply with federal employment regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a minimum of three years full-time general work experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and apply knowledge
  • or possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • or combination of education and experience
  • specialized work experience equivalent to one year at a lower grade level for GS-7
  • bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one full year of graduate-level education
  • previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
  • able to complete required training and pass academy requirements

Job Duties

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
  • facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
