Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • age under 40 at time of referral unless exempt
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • successful completion of CBP Field Operations Academy
  • ability to pass background investigations and entrance exam
  • physical fitness to meet job standards
  • willingness to work in assigned duty locations which may include border and port cities
  • compliance with federal employment guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or three years of general work experience demonstrating interpersonal and learning abilities for GS-5
  • one year of specialized full-time work experience performing inspections and applying laws for GS-7
  • bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or graduate-level education for GS-7
  • previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience for eligibility at GS-9
  • ability to complete required training and maintain physical fitness
  • U.S. citizenship status
  • compliance with age and residency requirements

Job Duties

  • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
  • facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
  • conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
  • determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
  • preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
  • completing required training programs and maintaining physical fitness standards
  • participating in continuous professional development and law enforcement duties
