Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- Must meet age restriction requirements before reaching 40th birthday unless exempt
- Must complete a paid pre-academy orientation and a 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
- Must pass the CBPO Entrance Exam
- Must submit resume, transcripts, and supporting documents
- Must meet Veterans’ Preference eligibility if applicable
Job Qualifications
- Experience demonstrating ability to meet and deal with people and learn and apply a body of facts for GS-5
- Bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a four-year course of study for GS-5
- Combination of college education and general work experience for GS-5
- Specialized full-time work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level including physical inspections, evaluating facts, and applying laws for GS-7
- Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one full year of graduate-level education for GS-7
- Combination of specialized work experience and graduate education for GS-7
- Previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience may qualify for GS-9
Job Duties
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
- Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
- Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
- Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband
